Science Project
Need a little help. Found an old thread on topic. Based on this, my son bought Gary's Mod and Half Life and is trying to compare measurement between real life and virtual reality for his Science Project as he thinks this is a great project.

He wants to use a weight and drop it from distances and measure the time it takes in real life. He then will repeat this test a number of times to determine the average time. He would then like to do the same in the game with the exact same weight and height and time it as well. He would video both and demonstrate as well as explain the science behind the experiment. We are now having difficulty trying to figure out how to do this in Garry's mod and Half life and Garry suggested I ask the forum.

We need some instructions and help. I am unfortunately not the best person to provide some support on this. We are trying to pick an object with a weight between 2 - 20 lbs. (can't figure out how to do ) we are trying to set a distance for the drop (can't figure out how to do) Need to do both virtually to attempt to compare in reality.

Can anyone out there give us some guidance.
Thx Science Mom

RE: Science Project
Garrysmod and HL2 are not really what you want to concentrate your topic on, look up Physics Engines and compare drop times. Try looking up the Havok Engine or Cryengine.

(Yes i know i may have responded to a adbot)

RE: Science Project
What might help is the weight tool for garry's mod which you can find here:
http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=84544

While the Source engine is realistic for it's time, it's pretty outdated. I don't know if it supports wind resistance and things like that.
What Rio said, Cryengine, is more realistic and updated than Source engine (what Garry's Mod runs on).

If you do decide to do it in Garry's Mod, another useful tool would be the measuring stick:
http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=37778.

If you are still having trouble you should create a thread on the official forums here.
Edit:
And I forgot, to install addons like those tools, unzip them and put the folder in:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<your steam username>\garrysmod\garrysmod\addons
