I've put some commands in the server cfg to help with the recent lag issue but still...
Somebody should copyright the word 'Lag,' It's probably the number one word yelled out in online gaming every day besides 'faggot'. Despite the fact that most people don't know what it even is.
Not all lag is caused because of the server. If you're getting a low FPS, it is because your computer cannot handle the stress GMod puts on it.
However, if the server itself is lagging while your game still runs silky smooth, there's reason to be alarmed, and any steps possible should be taken to return the game to as close to normal as possible.
Client Lag (i.e. GET A BETTER COMPUTER)
- Low FPS
- Game or computer freezing
- High ping
Server lag (i.e. THIS SERVER SUCKS)
- Smooth FPS
- Jerky Movement
- Everyone has 200+ ping
- Movement on Toolgun screen matches jerkiness
Things that cause lag that you should AVOID DOING because we're starting to ban for it:
Weld Pulling- Making unstable welds with light objects (floppy welds). Usually stuff like a plate with a zillion wire chips on it.
Unfreezing Big Things- Seriously. Nothing lags more than when you spawn your huge house or whatever out of advanced duplicator and unfreeze it. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE, LEAVE IT FROZEN PLEASE.
Leaving shit lying around- All you have to do it press undo (Z). Don't leave 30 balls laying around please.
Here are things that lag in the order that they lag in:
Wire Data- doesn't lag much
Wire Components- billions of little chips
Spamming Explosives- explosions cause lag btw
Excessive Ropes- Even just roping the world to itself
Physics Collisions- Try using the Parenting tool to remove physics collisions on parts of your contraption.
